Welcome all AFSers!! Do you want to continue to meet people from other cultures after your exchange? Do you love traveling? Do you love to host and to be hosted? Then you have come to the right place!
| First the "official" statement: What is the Hospitality Club?
Our aim is to bring people together - hosts and guests, travelers and locals. Hospitality Club members around the world help each other when they are traveling - be it with a roof for the night or a guided tour through town. Joining is free and everyone is welcome to join. Members are able to look at each other's profiles online once they have registered and have been accepted.
The club is supported by volunteers who believe in one idea: by bringing travelers in touch with people in the place they visit and by giving "locals" a chance to meet people from other cultures we can make this world a better place to live.
And now background information for AFSers: The Hospitality Club was started by AFSers Veit (Germany-North Carolina, USA 1994/95) and Kjell Kuehne (Germany-Indonesia 1995/96) in 2000. Veit had founded the AFS Hospitality Network in 1997. The Hospitality Club is open to anyone - not just AFSers. We believe that we can make the basic idea of AFS - fostering peace through intercultural friendships and understanding - a lot more popular with thousands of people interacting in the club.
Also, we hope that in the long run, we will get a lot of people interested in the idea of hosting a person from another culture. And if it is fun for a few days - why not take in an exchange student for one year? In the future, we plan to integrate the old AFS Hospitality Network into the Hospitality Club, so if you want to, you can host and visit AFSers only. Already now, you can search for AFSers in the club and contact them only. But of course we hope that you will help us to spread the AFS spirit through the world!
There are now already at least 300 AFSers who are members of the Hospitality Club, and we invite you to come onboard as well -
signing up takes just a couple of minutes. Also, please tell all your AFS friends about the Hospitality Club and please put a link to
http://afs.hospitalityclub.org on your AFS page, homepage, newsletter etc.
Looking forward to seeing you onboard!
