dreaming of seeing the world? You don't want to wait until you make
enough money yet are permanantly short of time? Do you like experiencing
different cultures and enjoying meet people?
We are just
like you. That's why we came up with the idea of building up this
OneNightStay Community for backpack travellers, through which you
can meet people, get to learn cultures first- hand and get free
acommodations on the give-and-take basis. .
This community is for you, if
you:
a) love travelling, even
with a tight budget;
b) enjoy meeting people;
c) you have at least one couch or one clean floor big enough for
a sleeping bag;
d) smart enough to know that we help ourselves by
helping others;
How It Works
It works very simple:
1) You join this community and become a member
of OneNightStay. That declares yourself ready to accept other members
to stay with you for at least one night.
2) As a member, you will have access to a databank which contains
general information about all members including his/her name, location,
E-mail address, and his/her preferences for OneNightStay-guests.
3) You contact the member(s) at the location you
are travelling to. If you get "YES", you can hit the road
knowing there will be new friends welcoming you!
Rules
>> OneNightStay is a mutual beneficial community
based on the idea of "give and take". So try to give as
often as you intend to take.
>> When contacting a member and requesting
accommodation, keep in mind that no member is obliged to host you.
When they do, be thankful and polite.
>> If, out of some reason, you cannot pay visit to the host
that is kind enough ready to accommodate you, please make sure to
inform him/her as soon as possible.
Costs
It doesn't cost anything. After all that's
why we started this project and that's why it could work so simple.
We hope we will find a sponsor to cover the administration fee.
You can help us either by telling more people about this website,
suggesting us potential sponsors, or sending us donations.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can I change
my password?
It sounds cruel, but: no, for the time being you have to live with
this inhumanly complicated password. We sugguest that you save it
somewhere. But in case you can't find it or remember it, we will
always be there to help. This inconvienience is only temprorary.
2. How
do I change my profile?
It sounds silly, but for the time being, you have
to send us per e-mail the information you want to update. We will
then change it for you in our databank. We promise that we will
add the "edit" function soon.
3. Is this great idea already working?
YES!
4. Can we stay longer than one night?
There is no rule for that. It all depends on your host.
5. What happens when a guest arrives and we feel uncomfortable
having them stay in our house?
Most backpackers are open, polite and friendly. If you are a very
careful person, you can get to know more about (potential) guest
by exchanging e-mails or talk on the phone before agreeing to host
him/her.
6. What happens if the guest does not want to leave?
If you don't see it as a compliment to how cosy your home is, you
have to do what you think is necessary. But again that will be a
very extreme case.
7. Have you ever had any bad feedback at all from any members?
Fortunately, not yet.
8. Do you ever cancel someone's membership if someone were to
complain about them?
Depends on how bad this bad boy or bad girl is. Soon we will add
a "reference" function where members can comment on their
hosts and guests which cannot be deleted or changed. But please
have a little bit patience. Our programmer is extremely busy lately.
Don't forget we are all volunteers and have to earn our bread somewhere
else:-)
9. How do you communicate with a host that doesn't speak your
language?
Normally all OneNightStay members speak English (The level varies
of course.) Therefore there won't be big language barrier between
members.
10. How do I remove myself from the databank?
We would hate to say good-bye to you. But if you insist doing that,
we will wish you all the best. Send us an e-mail so that we can
say farewell to you. In the near future you will be able to just
disappear if you prefer not to disturb anybody.
